Tauranga’s Lucky Climate.

MUCH SUNSHINE IN WINTER. EASY ACCESS BY RAIL. In New Zealand’s tourist literature the pleasant climate—with its annual average of 2000 hours of sunshine for the Dominion—has worthy mention, but, of course, a country of widely varied configuration, stretching through a thousand miles of latitude, has an assortment of weather. Well, here is a piece of plain truth. The kind of impression which a fairly roseate description of NeAV Zealand’s climate makes on an outsider Avill be definitely supported by Tauranga and some other localities of the Bay oi Plenty. In a passage on Tauranga in “Travel in New Zealand,” Mr. James Cowan remarks: “For advantages of climate, this pleasant part of the coast, lying well to the sun, has no superior.” Another reviewer states: “The Tauranga winter is almost invariably mild and storm-free. The daily hours of sunshine are delightfully long and autumn-like for the greater part of the winter months. Frost is rare and never really severe. From three to five degrees of frost is almost the limit of severity every winter. On the other hand there are often days of bright warm sunshine when the air is cliampagnelike in its crispness and purity. On such days the outdoor life is delightful beyond measure, and it js small wonder that Tauranga is fast becoming famous as a winter resort since the opening of road and rail communication has facilitated holiday 7 and tourist traffic to a degree never before experienced.”
