WEANING OF BABIES.
THE MATERNITY ANNEXE.
MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT'S
REPORT.
As requested by the Thames Hospital Board at its September meeting, the medical superintendent of the Thames Hospital, Dr. O. S, Hetherington, forwarded a report to the Board yesterday on the number of babies weaned off natural feeding in the maternity annexe. The report stated that for the year ending August 31, 1933, 137 babies were born in the annexe, and of these six had been weaned. Four of the six were hospital cases and two were private doctors' cases. The reasons for weaning were stated in each case.
Mr. C. W. Parfitt said he was ,very pleased to see such a satisfactory report. His reason for asking for the report to be furnished was- to discredit certain rumours that were prevalent to the effect that babies born in the annexe were weaned too soon.
Mr. A. R. Robinson agreed that the Board had acted wisely in obtaining the report. Board members were now in a position to contradict such rumours.
