N.Z. Potatoes.
THE AUSTRALIAN EMBARGO. t TASMANIA OPPOSES REMOVAL. (A. and N.Z. Cable). HOBART, April 6. There is strong resentment throughout the potato-growing districts in Tasmania at the action of the chairman of the Tasmanian Potato Marketing Board in instructing the marketing officer at Sydney that the board was not opposed to the lifting of the embargo on New Zealand potatoes. Meetings have been held, and a telegram of protest sent to the Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons. Following Mr. J. G. Latham's recent statement in the House of Representatives at Canberra, Lieut.Colonel G. J. Bell (Tasmania) asked if it was conceivable that potatoes from New Zealand would bo admitted to Victoria while Victoria continued to impose an embargo against Tasmanian potatoes because of disease, which was prevalent also in the New Zealand product. Mr. Latham said that the Government recognised the anomaly and that the matter was under consideration.
