Champion Daffodils.

MESSRS. DANBY’S SUCCESSES:

AWARDS AT HAMILTON

EXCELLENT NORTH ISLAND EXHIBITS.

Messrs W. and S. Dauby, the well-known Thames amateur horticulturists, followed up their recent daffodil successes at the Auckland Sp ingi Flo war Show by securing further championships at the Hamilton Horticultural Society’s Spring Show, held yesterday, which was a'so the venue of the National Daffodil Society’s North Island Show.

Growers of the daffodil were present from the principal centres of the North Island, and the exhibition of the most admired of spring flowers was the finest ever staged in the Auckland province. Championships Won.

Messrs Danby secured seven first awards and one second award with their daffodil exhibits. Championships won by-.them were r North Island Championship Gold Medal, with 12 varieties, 3 of each.

Auckland Provincial Championship Cup, with 18 varieties, 1 of each.

Championship in the open classes for Leedsii, with a bloom of “Kingdw».” * Championship in the amateur section for yellow trumpets, with a bloom of “Bonny Glen,” and in the Barrii section with a bloom of “St. Just.”

For the North Island championship there were nine entries from all over the Island, and in the Auckland Provincial championships eight entries.

Judge’s Comment

“The show is a magnificent one,” was the comment of the judge, Mr J. Q. Weightman, of Feilding, who made special mention of Messrs Danby’s exhibit. “Judging all through was no light task, I can assure you, so high was the general standard of excellence,” he added.
