Thames Plunket Society.

SUCCESSFUL "AT HOME." AUGMENTING THE FUNDS. An "At Home," to augment the funds of the Thames Plunket Society, was held on Thursday last in St. George's Parish Hall. The musical programme, which was of a very high standard, was greatly appreciated by the many supporters of the Society wfio were present. Mrs Mellsop (Matatoki), who was in excellent voice, contributed two delightful items, and was loudly applauded. Miss Matthew (Netherton), also sang twice during the afternoon, her beautiful contralto voice doing full justice to the items chosen, an encore being demanded in each Instance. Both ladies were most ably accompanied at the piano by Mrs Henry (Turua). Mr Kerby, violinist, entranced his audience with his sympathetic and skillful performance, and had to respond to a most enthusiastic encore. Mrs Merven accompanied Mr Kerby in her usual excellent manner. Another item of outstanding merit was a pianoforte study by Miss Gladys Harvey. Mr W. Danby very generously gave an interesting talk on "Daffodil Culture." This item proved most popular for the information gained, as well as for the high quality of the address. Mr Thomas, in his recitation, "An Old Bachelor," won everyone's heart, and was roundly applauded. A comical encore number was much enjoyed. During the afternoon, tea was served by the ladies of the committee, the dainty repast being greatly enjoyed by all present. Mrs Miller, president of the Society, in thanking the performers, as well as the audience, for their support, appealed for their continued assistance on behalf of the babies, as well as for- the young mothers, many of whom were experiencing very difficult times at present. The committee should clear over £S from the effort, which Is considered very satisfactory.
