ROVER DEFENDED.
BY EX-ALL BLACK.
ONUS ON THE REFEREE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association) HAMILTON, Jan. 27
“There is nothing wrong with our formation, which has stood the test of 40 years,” stated Mr George Gillett, of Hamilton, one of the star players of the 1904 and 1905 All Blacks. Mr Gillett during that tour played frcqently in the role of w.ngforward.
“The proposal aiming at any change in New Zealand in the Rugby she has known for so long, will meet with much opposition when it comes before the annual meeting of delegates. There is nothing to say that you cannot play a man in this position if you have ten players in the scrum,” he said. “The one person to handle the wing-forward is the referee, and a good wing-for-ward can open up the game as well as the best half-back. Both can take their place on the field without detriment to each other or teamwork as a whole.”
