INCREASE IN GOLD.

OUTPUT FOR SEPTEMBER,

ENCOURAGING PROSPECTING

<By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 2

The Minister of Mines, the Hon. D. Jones, when the Department's Estimates were being considered in the House of Representatives, made an important statement regarding an increase in New Zealand's gold production. He had been urged by many members to encourage in every way possible further prospecting for gold, and he had replied to the effect that he had discussed the matter with the Minister in Charge of Unemployment, thg Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, because the Government was giving the greatest possible attention to the matter. , The Minister said he could promise that the mines vote would be over-spent this year, and he hoped to get another £4OOO or £SOOO before the end of the financial year. A large number of parties were prospecting throughout New 'Zealand, and it was interesting to know that the gold obtained in September was £IO,OOO more than in the corresponding month of last year, despite trie fact that the big dredge on the West Coast, which usually produced over £3OOO monthly, was not working. Prospecting parties woe, he concluded, doing very effective work. *
