CHAIRMAN RESIGNS.

MERCURY BAY DAIRY CO. ACTION REPUDIATED. LETTING OF CONTRACT. Taking the carrying of a motion repudiating his action in letting the contract for the Hahei cream carriage as a motion of no-confidence, Mr N. A. Walls, who, for the past nine years, <has been chairman of directors of the Mercury Bay Dairy Company, resigned both as chairaian and as director, at the last meeting of directors of the company. Previously the cream from this district had been delivered by launch, but, during the past 12 months, chiefly due to the efforts of Mr Wells,and Cr Hamilton, the Coromandel County Council has put in a road to the settlement so that the cream could be taken out. All the contracts for the season had already been let, and when this matter came up Mr Wells decided to let the carting to a supplier who would deliver by cart at a lesser price than was formerly paid by the company for launch delivery. When the confirmation of the chairman's action was asked for, a -bare majority of the directors decided to call for fresh tenders. Mr Wells at once placed his resignation in the hands of the secretary. Afterwards the directors endeavoured to persuade Mr Wells to change his mind, but up to the present he has refused to do so. Practically speaking, the history of the Mercury Bay Dairy Company dates from the time when Mr Wells, as one of the first dariymen in that part of the world, took the initial steps to form the company, and he has been a director from the very start and chairman for nine years. Under his guidance the company has made the largest strides in its history, and the loss of his guiding hand will be a very severe blow, not only to the company, but to all the suppliers, especially in the present crisis of the dairy industry.
