At a large meeting held in Hawera, representative.of the Patea electorate, Mr G. V. Pearce was unanimously chosen as the Independent United Candidate for the Patea seat.

Mr Pearce represented Patea in Parliament from 1908 to 1919 in the interests of the Reform Party.
