DOG SAVES LIFE.
GUMDIC.GER FALLS IN FIRE. ANIMAL DRAGS MASTER CLEAR (.By Telegraph—Press Association.) WIIANGAREI, July 13 A sensational accident, in which the fidelity of a (log alone saved its master from being burned to death, occurred at Poroti last week. Albert McAskic, aged 09, who lives on the gumfields, about a mile from the hotel, was sitting in front of the fire in his wliare when he took a fit and became unconscious. He fell forward and the upper part of bis body was in Haines. Sensing the need of its master, the dog, a sturdy built half-retriever, dragged the prostrate man clear of the fire. McAskio subsequently recovered consciousness, and although terribly .burned was able to obtain help. HP was brought to Whangarei by Mr W. A. Abbott. The tannic acid treatment was applied to the burns on his chest, face and thighs, and an amputation may be necessary of (lie right hand, which is charred to the bone. McAskie is doing surprisingly well.
