HOSPITAL MATTERS.
THAMES BOARD MEETS. WORK OF THE MONTH. RECEIVING OF THE INSTITUTION. Mr W. E. Hale presided over the July meeting of the Thames Hospital Board, there also being present Messrs B. D. Chapman, C. W. Parlitt, E. L. Walton, C. W. Kennedy, P. E. Brenan, A. E. Robinson, D. Courtney, J. Lange and J. W. Danby. The secretary (Mr Geo. Tongc) was also in attendance. Waikato Raises Fees. The Waikato Hospital Board wrote informing the Board that the fees for special treatment in the Waikato Hospital for patients from outside districts had been increased t. 15/- per day. REPORTS. Medical Superintendent. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. W. Sowerby) reported that it had been a very quiet''month .in the Hospital. Admissions numbered 71, deaths 4, discharges 83, and 35 operations had been performed. Matron’s Report. The Matron (Miss K. M. Ansenne) reported that Nurses Young, Miller, Watson and Thwaites sat for the Anatomy and Physiology examinations and that all had passed. Nurses W. Moore, Peake, Marson and Corbett had sat for the State Examination on June 10 and 11 at Hamilton but the results were not yet out, and Nurse D. Moore had sat for the Maternity Examination at Hamilton on June 16. The Women’s National Reserve had provided the usual magazines and papers and had taken the convalescents for a drive. Mr Orbell had sent in a donation of apples. There had been 10 births at the Maternity Annexe.
Paeroa Hospital. Sister F. E. Maslin reported that at the Paeroa Maternity Hospital there had been six admissions and one minor operation. The Homes Farm. The farmhand stated in his report that the condition of the pastures was fair but that, here was plenty of green feed, mangolds and hay. Milk production was 13 gallons daily from four cows. The condition of the garden was very good. Egg production had increased very much, it being 78 dozen for the month. The Native Nurse. Nurse Jamieson, Nurse to the Natives, -reported having made 297 visits during the month, including schools at Paeroa, Kopu, Pure, Kerepeehi and Waitakaruru. and pas at Paeroa, Peka Peka Road, Kerepeehi, Te Moananui’s Flat, Rotokoliu, Waitoki, Hikutaia, Tirohia, Maratoto, Kopu, Parawai, Ivauacranga, Thames, Puru, Waiomo, Tapu-Coroglen Road, Mako Mako Road, and Waitakaruru. Lectures had been delivered on treatment of skin diseases, feeding of infants, pre-natal care, treatment of tuberculosis and prevention of infection. Finance. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £llO6/4/4.
