SOME PLAINS EXAMPLES. PLACED BEFORE COUNCIL. UP TO 57 PER CENT. Some typical examples of the reduction in rates in the Ilauraki Plains County were brought forward by the County treasurer (Mr E. A. Mahoney) at last meeting of the Council. Each district is included and the first figures indicate the 1930-31 rate, the second the rate for this year, and the third set the reduction per cent:— Turua Riding. Mangatarata area: £6 0s 3d; £5 12s 8d; 61 per cent. In the Mangatarata loan area, a rate of 2d in the £1 has been levied this year for the first time. This sweeping reduction can, of course, be only temporary, and a slip has been attached to each demand pointing this out, and also stressing the fact that arrears must be paid for the Council to-carry on.
