WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE.

THAMES BRANCH. SOCIAL AFTERNOON. The Reserve held a social afternoon on Thursday, 9th inst., in St. George’s Parish Hall. The hall was well filled, but either the uncertain weather or the bad times affected the attendance, which was not up to the usual standard. However, all present thoroughly enjoyed an excellent programme and the dainty afternoon tea that makes these afternoons so sociable and pleasant. The first part of the programme was devoted to music. Songs were rendered by Mesdames Holden, A. Bush, Marshall and Holman and Mr Arthur Williams contributed a cornet solo, each performer receiving an enthusiastic encore. After the interval for afternoon tea, a sketch entitled “The Lost Ten Pound Note,” was put on by Mr Thomas and Company, consisting of Misses Avery, Fairburn and Noble, and Messrs Plucke and Thomas. The very hearty applause testified to the appreciation of the audience of the amusing situations so well portrayed. The President (Mrs E. F. Adams) thanked the performers for thenkindly assistance so generously and willingly given to the Reserve. The proceeds are to "be given to the loea Plunket Society, an organisation well worthy of support. Although it is still mid-winter the lovely display of spring flowers that decorated the tea tables made one imagine that spring was actually here. Narcissi, daphne, camelias, roses and masses of mimosa found a ready sale at the close of the entertainment.
