RIDD FAMILY LEAVES FARM. ■■ ~.;. .Tom Ridd, the -direct descendant' of Girt Jan Ridd in "Lorna Doone," is leaving Yeuworthy Farm, at Oare, in the Doone Valley, for ever, states a London correspondent. In so doing he severs the Ridd family's many centuries' connection with the village and area in which the story of Lorna Doone is staged. The Ridds have been at Oare longer than any man can trace. "We'll be sorry, my wife and I, to go," said Tom Ridd. "But we are in 1930 now, and I think I am going to improve my position by changing. I have taken a bigger and better farm at South Molton, down in Devon," he added, "and I'm now busy packing, ready to move. The Ridds are leaving Oare for good and all. Another man, no relation or anything, is coming to farm here." Tom has resigned his wardenship at Oare Church. Members of the family have been churchwardens in this lonely Exmoor village for centuries. He will be. the last. A lonelier farm it would be hard to find. "We don't get many visitors." said Tom Ridd, dryly.
