CHRISTCHURCII, July 11 Permanent repairs to the telegraph and telephone lines which were heavily damaged by Wednesday's snowstorm in North and West Canterbury, will occupy several weeks, but temporary measures are being taken which should enable the restoration of all services to-morrow. Communication with the West Coast by telephone to-day was intermittent, and most of the toll went by way of Blenheim. Since the storm no person has passed over the road between Arthur's Pass and Otira, but it is known the depth of snow is great. Mr E. P. 11. Burbury, of Sherwood Downs, near Waiau, said 14 inches of snow had fallen on his station, but he did not think there would be any heavy losses of sheep there 1 . 1 Stock was in gbod condition and had been moving' about freely, 2000 sheep being fed on liP" near '■■lendin Hills station.
