RUGBY IN THE WATER.

TARANAKI v. WAIKATO. GEESE AND DUCKS DRIVEN OFF WIN FOR TARANAKI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) STRATFORD, July 10 Never has inter-provincial Rugby been played here under such conditions as the Taranaki-Waikato match yesterday. The ground was under water to such an extent that geese and ducks from a nearby lake were attracted there. The referee had to drive them off before sounding the whistle, much to the spectators' amusement. Taranak.i won by 5 to 3. As' an exposition of Rugby the game was a farce, but as could be seen had the conditions been better it would have been outstandingly good. The work of the fullback, Egan, for Waikato, and Collins, for Taranaki, was splendid. Egan retired with an injury to his ankle. The forwards of both teams gave a good account of themselves.
