To-morrow will see thu flags Hying at Trentham for the winter meeting, and some useful fields are engaged, despite the big drop in stakes. The Matai Steeples, of 21 miles, heads the list with 13 engaged. Corneroff is useful, whilst West Dome (not a sure conveyance), Uintali (;i winner at Dunedin), Winter Day, Panorama (not too bad), will all have followers. Senora might also do well, but the best appear to be: Urn tali, Pangolin, Winter Day, from: MATAI STEEPLES, Of £250; about 2J miles. The Woburn six has a few roughies, and nothing really outstanding. Navaho won at Hawke's Bay, Lord Val is well and is expected at the meeting; Water Power does not appeal much, but Rekarakau, Valrewa and Nornianby may have friends. There are 1G in the Vittoria Hurdles, the bulk of them being minus any real testing experience. Gourmet 9.0. ■ There is a good field in the Steward's, and the issue is very clouded. Weight will stop the best, but Manawhenua and Royal Saxon are both well, whilst Inevitable is like her name. She must some time. Knollmere is in form, and Manifesto, Royal Finance, Tobaccoland and Coon Song all are above the average in the.mud. The fact that the steeples is run on the flat will nullify a bit of the G.N. form, and this makes it interesting. Red Fuchsia has the top with 10.10, but will have to foot it with some of the rest at the end of 3i miles, if the pace is on. Claremore did not like the hill at Ellerslie, and Lucess was not the stayer anticipated. This might suit him better. Tuki has to light Anno Domini as well as the field, and the same applies to Fabriano, though he will get round. Spalpiko must be hard if he sees it out. but St. Warrigal reads much better. Nukumai has a plodder's chance, and the same defines Matu. Dark Prince is fair, but of the lightweights Coney and Paris read the best. The issue may include : St. Warrigal, Claremore, • Copey, 5-

High Pitch claims an engagement in the Whyte Memorial, and it is assumed he will take this on. Taaneriri, for all his weight, will take some beating in the Whyte Memorial, and the field is no easy one for punters.
