RELIEF COMMITTEE.
PROGRAMME DECIDED UPON. HOUSE-TO-HOUSE CANVASS. The special Relief Committee'set up to inquire into the alleviation of distress in Thames met at the Council Chambers on Tuesday, July at 4 p.m. There were present: The Mayor, Mr S. Ensor (in the char), Mrs Ensor, Miss M. Smith, Messrs L. Alexander, J. W. Danby, B. D. Chapman, P. Jensen and Rev. A. Fear (secretary). It was decided to make a house-to-house visitation for clothing, bedding, produce, firing and donations on Saturday, July 18. In order to avoid delay in collecting, the public is asked to have any of the above that they can contribute, tied up in parcels. Arrangements were made whereby people of the surrounding districts might have the opportunity of helping in this needy effort. Sub-com-mittees were formed to make the necessary arrangements for advertising, collecting of goods, transport, receiving and distributing the goods. The meeting adjourned until Thursday, July 16.
