RESCUED FROM DROWNING.
IN HAURAKI GULF.
THREE BARRIER FISHERMEN.
UNENVIABLE PLIGHT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 8 Three men were rescued from drowning in the Hauraki Gulf last night by the steam trawler, Thomas CurrelJ, which reached the men’s sinking launch just in time. The rescued men were Messrs J. Holt, junr., D. Miller and W. Stanley- .
The launch was returning to Auckland from Port Fitzroy (Great Barrier Island) when the engine broke down at 2.30 p.m., and she began to ship water. The men could do nothing but keep bailing water, but about midnight, when they were becoming exhausted, to make their plight worse the dinghy which was towed astern broke away.
At about 2 o’clock this morning they saw a mast-head light, so they lit flares. Half an hour later the Thomas Currell took the men off and attempted to tow the launch, which broke away and disappeared.
