WONDERFUL FERTILITY.
ON THE HAURAKi PLAiNS
A Rich Two-Mile Road.
YIELDS 361,151L8. BUTTER-FAT. FIGURES FOR LAST SEASON, What is probably the best producing area in New Zealand, and therefore in the world, is that containing the properties that confront the two-mile stretch of road running from Hicks’ Corner to the' Kopua-rahi-Kerepeehi Road, known as the Piako Road, on the Hauraki Plains. There are fifteen owners of land on the road, although some run their sections as two or three farms and have sharemilkers on portions of them.
The total area comprises 2296 acres, and the butter-fat taken off made the enormous total of 361,151.2 lb., which, at a shilling per lb (the approximate price for the season) makes over £IB,OOO. This works out at 1571 b. butterfat per acre, or £7/17/- at 1/- per lb.
The farms range from 290 acres to 50 acres, and this year they have had a particularly fine season. Had the home market kept up with prices like the preceding season the figures would have (in sterling) been very satisfactory indeed.
