A fire in the projection box of the Empire Theatre at Island Bay put an abrupt end to the programme. The structure adjoins the theatre and the audience was unaware of the outbreak until it left the building. No panic occurred and the fire brigade extinguished the flames quickly. Twb machines and 400 feet of film were destroyed and other apparatus was damaged by fire and water. ,
