"I somehow guess- you are the Mayor of Wellington, Noo Zealand," drawlel an> American voce as air. G. A. Troup stepped , ashore at Honolulu, during his late transpacific trip. "Yes, I do happen to be the Mayor," answered Mr. "Troup, "but how did you know?" "Wal, as representative 'of Honolulu's c'h'ef supervisor, I have teen watching the people as they came down the gang plank, and you were the only one that seomed to measure up to the job!" Mr. Troup is over six feet in height. i "I'd like to see the sergeant," said a voice at the Central Police Station, Wangamui, on Monday, as a man stepped through the door. "I want information. The police are all good fellows when it comes to giving information. Nobody like the police.' I'd like t'o see the'sergeant." Those in the watch house were aIL attention in a moment, and the sergeant stepped forward. "Ave you the sergeant?" queried the man. "1 am, ' c m e t:ie reply. "What can we do for you?" "You don't mind giving a man a bit of information, do you?" "Depends on what it is," the sergeant replied. "What is it?" 'Only this," the man answered. "Who's going to win the second test ,at Christ-church on Saturday. That's a poser, even for tha police." The sergeant's reply was not printable.
