MEETINGS AT AUCKLAND.
OVERLAPPING OF CONTROL.
(Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 2.
The Newmarket branch of the A.S.R.S. has expressed apprehension at the serving of dismissal notices on 50 men at Hillside, 4*5 at Addington, 17 at Auckland, 30 at Palmerston North, and a compilation of a list of a further 50 at Otahuhu.
It calls,on the Minister;to consider “the huge salaries of the officers on the first three pages of the classification list,” and contrasts the Department’s attitude in maintaining and even increasing these salaries; also in retaining Vthe services of all first division men while hundreds of second division men are dismissed.
WHANGAREI REMITS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, July 2. ,
A, combined meeting of the A.S.R.S. and the F.CA. and Tradesmen’s Association of the Whangarei section of the New Zealand Railways, resloved to send twelve suggestions to the Railway Commission ip connection with the reduction of costs.
The -principal remits concern the overlapping of control in various sections of the Department and the increase of highly-paid positions created during the last few years.
