A Successful Year.
HIGH STANDARD OF PLAY.
DAYLIGHT SAVING APPRECIATED.
-the committee again have pleasure is reporting a very successful" season. Although the weather was not very favourable for howling during the former part of the season, the exceptionally fine spell experienced during the latter part of summer and the autumn fully compensated for the earlier adverse lapse. The extra half hour davlight gained by the enactment of the. Summertime Bill was agaiir very much appreciated. The committee meetings throughout the year have been well attended, each officer being keen- in his desire to arrange matters for the best advantage to members and the club generally.
The members are fortunate in having another president who has taken such keen interest,in his various duties, also a &et of officers, whose one aim was. to make the season both pleasant and successful. The members are deeply ■ indebted to the ladies of the Crouquet Club for the able manner in which they have attended to the afternoon tea arrangements throughout the season, and we think Mrs. Lockett's efforts are worthy of special notice. The annual tournament, which was again held in January,., proved most successful from every "viewpoint. Twenty : one teams took I part in the competition, victory, resting with Mr. Clark's team, who defeated another local team skipped*by Mr. Adamson, in the final. , The visiting bowlers expressed entire with the conditions undler V ; w-h,ich. the tournament was carried otti, and commented favourably on our new green, which no doubt must have been very pleasing to our late green superintendent, Mr. Adamson. r ~ -.
.The usual round of'club competitions were played during the season, the winners being:—"A" championship, Mr. H. Cordes; "B" championships Mr. J. Cartwright; president's prize, E. Newinan; pairs, Messrs. L. Alexander and H. Murray. To comply with the wish of the members of the last-mentioned., was played on the two bowl system.
The challenge games for possession of the Memorial Badges again proved very popular with members throughout the geaston. ,
The members were well catered for as regards inter-club matches, games being played at Morrinsvijle and Paeroa, while home and home .matches were played against the Waihi and Hikutaia clubs. The Te Aroha club also visited us on Easter Monday. We were also favoured with a visit from the Taranaki touring bowlers, nine rinks participating in the play, •n hich provided a pleasant afternoon's play. The Thames Ciub were successful in all their matches during the season, which speaks highly of the standard of play in our club. The club was represented at the South Auckland competitions/ Cambridge, Te Aroha, Hawera, and Coromandel tournaments, Mr. Clark's team being successful in the last mentioned. .'•'..■■> A very pleasing ceremony took place at the green on the opening day, when Mr. T. Adamson was presented with a life honorary member's badge, in recognition of the valuable services he has rendered in the past. The committee would urge upon all members the desirability of seeing that their subscriptions and matcu fees are paid without' giping the various officers the unnecessary wprk of looking up members. Owing to the ■ Dominion tournament being held at Auckland in January this coming season, it 'might be advisable for the members to consider another date for our tournament. Reference might be made to those car owners who so generously put their cars at the disposal of members when visiting outside clubs for interclub matches. The 1929 President's Handicap, which was not completed at the close of that season, owing to the illness of one the finalists, was won bv Mr. H. Cordes. 'The Committee desires to place on record the good work performed by the green committee, the match committee and the treasurer. Thev also wish to acknowledge the valued services of the secretary, Mr. E. Newman, whose untiring efforts have kept • all matters promptly attended to The club is fortunate # in having such an efficient > and capable secretary. . .' ..
