The Joker. ' ; ,;; ' The Council decided to support the application. Position of a Garage. H. Axns, of Patetonga, objected on behalf of" his mother, to a neighbour building a shed for his motor car close to her house in Davy Street, as there was danger owing to , benzine. ' If '.' . The Building Committee had. inspected the site and ah amicable arrangement had - been arrived at. The Council approved of the action of the committee.. ;. Abattoirs Report. The stock slaughtered at the abattoirs during Mav were: Cattle 123; sheep, -226; lambs, 33; pigs,, 51. Metalling of Right of Way. J. E. Waldejr, of Mount Sea road, applied for a metal .for a right of way leading to his and pother neighbours' properties; " " •v Referred to the Works. Commattee with power to act. Trees for Parks. The park keeper, Mr. W. N. Gordon in his monthly report mentioned that"" he intended obtaining a few trees from the- bush to plant in places wH&re'some of the shrubs had died. The Council resolved tha t W&i Mayor, was to act in the matter of obtaining', suitable trees for, sheltyr at the' children's, playground and confer with tlie )parkike©F(?r with regai-d to the'trees required tor the park. {:) Culvert at Tararu Creek. Cr Morley pointed out the necessity for repairs to a culvert near-the footbridge at Tararu Creek The foreman is to report on the matter. Foreman of Works. The drainage connection at the premises of Mr W. S. Dovell, Cochrane Street, became blocked; the cause was found to be a large piece of concrete projecting from a joint in the pipe line between the boundary and the main sewer. In consequence of the dangerous state of the earth drain near Gleeson's bakeiy, 13 12in. tile pipes have been laid down at that point. That part of Upper .'Sealey Street between Terrace and Hill Streets has'been formed and gravelled. The Mowing streets have been cleared of growth: Mackay Street,-' from Cochrane; Street to Mary 'Street J Cochrane Street, from Pollen Street to Bella Street; Bella Street, from Mary Street to Campbell Street; Martha and Eirkwood Streets; Karaka Road, from Strides Street to Rolleston Street. The hopper at the west end of the "Waiotahi, <jiiarry tramline has been dismantled and the material carted to the Borough yard. Good progress has been made with the metalling of the Totara cemetery road. . Th'e footpa'th in front of Mr> Lee's property in Hill Street has been put in order so as to prevent the street storm water flowing on to the property. The weather has been too unfavourable to undertake further tarring .work.
The depth of the drain on the west side of Rdlleston Street, near the High School, was brought u p by Cr Muir, who asked if this could be improved. €r Bryan thought that tne drain should oe made shallower, and the matter was finally referred to the Works Committee for a recommendation. • '
