r l OWARDS WOMAN BANKRUPT.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 26.

"Never before has a bankrupt been treated with such a degree of tenderness and consideration," declared counsel for one creditor, of Winifred Baker, a single woman, a "clerk, who was adjudicated bankrupt by Mr Justice Herdman, when a creditors' meeting was resumed. .Strong exception was taken to the Assignee's ruling that a further inqury would be necessary. There was a sharp dispute over the admissibility of the proofs of debt. For the Assignee it was stated that it was his duty to satisfy himself ~'as to the claims which followed on the bankrupt's money borrowing and lending transactions. Eventually the meeting adjourned without progress.
