THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 1930. HEALTH EXAMINATION.

"With malic* toward* none; with charity for all; with firmneaa In the right, as God give* ui to ■en the right."—Lincoln.

Mr Stallworthy's suggestion of a general personal health examination at regular intervals is not new, but it will bear emphasis. Medical men have declared frequently that a re-> gular stocktaking of ihe individual's, health, especially after the fortieth year, would make more certain the early detection of trouble which, if neglected, might have serious results later on. It may be argued that regular visits . to: .the doctor might add to the number of hypochondriacs who are constantly obsessed with their state of health. On the other hand, the average individual is apt to defer medical overhaul until the persistence of an ailment actually compels him. Modern practitioners thoroughly believe in the principle that prevention is better than cure. If the human machine is to be kept in good running order it should be regularly inspected, like any other machine. The Minister of Health has stated his intention of embarking upon a plan of co-opera-tion between the medical profession, the insurance companies, and the general public, with that end in view. If what he is about to propose is simple* and practicable, 'it should.be well Worthy of. considera- ; tion.
