(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 26.
Details of the cost of the Wilden Estate, in Otago, which was acquired by the Government for closer settlement, have been given by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes
Mr Forbes stated that the purchase price of 15,174 acres of freehold land and the owner’s interest in the lease and improvements of an adjacent pastoral run, bringing the -'total area to 24,000 acres, was £BI,OOO. In subdividing the estate for closer settlement, two sections, including the homestead block and its extensive improvements, were allotted to former employees, without competition. That left approximately 17,000 acres, divided into 11 sections, to be offered under ballot. These had been loaded with the usual subdivision costs.
The total capital value of these sections, as offered for selection, is £74,460, equivalent to £4/7/6. per acre.
