MERCURY BAY DAIRY CO.
Tho monthly meeting of this company was held on Saturday last. The directors decided that a subsidy of one shilling per cow should be given b v the company toward the expenses of herd testing. . .
A levy of three halfpence per pig is to be made on all pigs shipped through the Dairy Company to the Export Association this charge being made to out of pocket expenses for telegrams, etc. A small charge is to be, made in future on all share transfers, this work haying been done for nothing in the past.. * .- An offer was received from a local firm to convey the company's butter to the Auckland Freezing Stores, the price asked being a moderate one; the idea being that the butter could be taken as return cargo by a motor lorry service, which it is proposed to establish. As the Dairy Company is under contract with the Northern Steamship Company the offer was declined. .. , The manager, Mr. Morley, applied for an increase of salary, the pay having remained the same for the last six years, though the output has increased from 117 tons to 195 tons. An addition of £SO per annum was granted, making the salary £350. With a view to providing for the % building and equipment of a new factory in two or three years' time it was resolved to take steps to increase the capital of the company from £2500 to £IO,OOO. Accounts for £B4B/2/8 were passed for payment.
The hospital staff has been very busy lately. Several weeks ago, Mrs. Roberts, 84 years of age, an.old resident of Kuaotumu, who lived alone, was discovered by the neighbours to have suffered very severe burns through having- fallen into the fire. She was conveyed to the Mercury Bay Hospital, where she still lies in a critical condition. Two other serious cases are under treatment, Dr. Liggins having been hastily summoned from the Thames in connection with an operation in one ease. The services of an additional trained nurse from Auckland have been obtained m order to deal with the extra work entailed.
The formation of the road between Tairua and Whenuakite is nearing completion, and motorists are planning to shortly visit by car the township, which has had such a long isolation. A proposed low level bridge over the Kapiwai stream • near Coroglen will be a great boon to the regions beyond.
On second thoughts, the members of the newly-formed Bowling Club decided to change the name of the club from "Buffalo" to "Mercury Bay" as being more appropriate and more easily recognised.
