SPRING FASHIONS.

A GORGEOUS DISPLAY. V AT HETHERINGTONS, LTD. s •. ATTRACTIVE WINDOWS. Springtime is a natural resurrection frcm the sombreness of winter.\ It is" a great miracle that brings all nature out in its gayest mood. In similar fashion woman puts off her winter garb and rejoices in the new freedom cf brightly coloured clothes and fashionings. The demands for such changes come at this itime and although the winds of spring are' fickle, womankind is undaunted and braves the weather in new finery. To cope with the needs of the town and district. in fashions, Messrs. Hetheiingtons Ltd opened their spring show this morning with a beautiful display of seasonable frocks and materials. Long hours had been spent in dressing the fine window frontage, and the result is certainly a credit to all concerned. The display last'evening under electric light attracted largo numbers of people, but no one , cculcl pass the showing in daylight without stopping, and a ceaseless stream of interested people thronged the footpath all day. "The Touch of Colour." Colour fulness is the prevailing noteof the season,- and one sees all the newest shades expressed in their most artistio tones in alluring fabrics... filmy tulles and georgettes, shimmering taffetas, silks and crepe de chines. Lido blue, daffodil yellow, creme de * tnenthe, lime and citronne, and the new capucine shades, from faiut pink "to glowing flame, contrast their gaiety with restful greens, ranging from lettuce and chartreuse to jade and emerald, and the effective colour scheme in every department emphasises the of accurate blending-. Pride of place in the showroom is given the bgxlal display, where exqui- . site veils of Brussels net and with their accompanying clusters of orange blossoms give their own delightful suggestion. The window . display gives an idea of the lovely frocks to be obtained for the season. One smart model features a black crepe de chine background with creme de menthe shamrocks, made with a two-tiered skirt edged with black pleating. The pliss* frill is also repeated modish, sleeves. A becoming straw hat to tone, with transparent go'ssamery edge, adds to the effectiveness of the ensemble. The individual woman will be attracted by the jumper suit in black and daffodil yellow, the bodice being appliqued in gold and Venetian red. Charmingly feminine, and suitable for garden party or races, are the floral chiffon frocks, one in tones _of primrose with handkerchief draperies on the georgette edged skirt, and the other in leafy green fashioned on picture lines with the uneven hem which is so popular in the current modes. New Furnishings.

Not only in the dress department is there evidence of spring, but as is only natural, furnishing comes under a similar influence. The new silk tapestry for curtains is made with beautiful effect. There are three .new shades, each one a delight to the eye,; and graduated to be in keeping the latest tones in wallpapers. Tlk ■ specialty is some Canadian silk tapestry hangings of heavy weight. Curtain nets range from cotton with art. silk to entirely l art. silk and are made indainty tones. The new shades are honey and Arab. A beautiful thing is a Chinese handworked bedspread with shams to match. This i a an expensive outfit but it is well worth the money asked and will make a brave showing in some lucky person's bedroom. In this line, too; there is much Chinese hand-made napery at reasonable prices, featuring worked borders with new colour effects, mostly Oriental in design.
