DANGER TO TRAFFIC.

In fining a man for throwing an empty bottle out of a ear, the shattered fragments littering the highfway to the danger of traffic, a Dunedin Magistrate remarked that he found it difficult to understand the mentality of people who committed .such irresponsible acts. The incident is merely an illustration of the kind of vandalism which induces certain utterly stupid individuals to strike matches on polished walls, throw cigarette-ends into dry grass, cut their -initials on public seats, and leave picnic grounds littered with paper, banana-skins and other remnants of open-air repasts. Fundamentally, such «aets proceed from a lack of consideration for other people—property owners and the general public. T,he latter ultimately suffers from the withdrawal of privileges formerly enjoyed because a few irresponsibles have forfeited by their conduct the enjoyment of the many.
