MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE.

A tragedy that appears to be the outcome of domestic unhappiness occurred here last night, and as a result a woman lost her life and her husband lies in the hospital. The persons involved are William Henry Brauman, aged 45, and Dorothy Bi'auman, his wife, aged 35.

The tragedy was enacted at the St. •Clair Beach, near the esplanade, at about 8,20 p.m.

Brauman was picked up in an unconscious condition with a bullet wound in his head. Close by was the body of his wife. She had been :shot through the head. It is understood that "Brauman, wno •recently arrived from 'lnvercargill, -where he followed the occupation of .-& carpenter, was separated from his "wife. Before the daughter had realised •what had happened Brauman turned the weapon on himself. Sub-Inspec-tor Cummings, who lives nearby, and three detectives from the central station, were quickly on the scene. Brauman was taken to the hospital where the authorities' report his condition to be net very serious.

Brauman had been separated from his wife for a year. The couple had four children, the eldest a youth and the youngest a boy of 10, the other two being girls.

THREATS TO KILL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 8. Mrs Brauman was' 35 and her hus r fcand 42. The separation agreement was signed 10 weeks ago, but a month later the woman asked for sureties,of peace, giving evidence of molestation and stating her husband frequently threatened to kill her,

As the man had no money, the magistrate adjourned the case sine die, With a proviso that it could be brought on at any time if further molestation occurred.

Mrs Brauman. was • employed as a housekeeper at St. Clair, and last evening she and her daughter. Olive, ,aged 151, were taken a short motor flrive by two young men. Later, when standing talking with one, Brauman approached, seized his wife and shot her through the head, her body falling to the rocks-below. Then, staving off the young man's rush with the pointed •revolver, he shot himself through the right eye, the bullet going downwards through the chin. The injury was inot a fatal one.

Brauman is a native of Bendigo, Victoria. In invercargill, where they lived on their marriage, he was a land salesman, and later a bond salesman at Dunedin.
