TWO POLLS CARRIED. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 9. Auckland ratepayers yesterday voted overwhelming in favour of the Transport Board’s loan proposals. The proposal to borrow £526,000 to carry out tramway extensions and improvements was approved by 3 votes to I, and the alternative proposal to raise £280,000 to carry out half the programme received 4 votes to 1; Immediate steps will be taken to raise the capital required, the first call being made on the New Zealand money market. Few loan proposals of recent years have excited so much interest. Poling was extremely heavy under the circumstances, nearly 18,000 ratepayers, or 47 per cent., recording their votes, out of an aggregate roll of 38,000.
