THE SALVAGE CASE.

EFFECT OF JUDGE SIM’S DEATH. RE-HEARING POSSIBLE.' (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ® WANGANUI, Aug. 31. An extraordinary position has arisen in regard to the Harbour Board’s claim for salvage of the steamer Gale, the hearing- of which ended at Wellington on Tuesday, owing to the sudden death of' the presiding judge, Sir William Sim.

His Honor had intimated that he intended to go South on Wednesday, and would not be able to give his decision before then, but he would do so as soon as possible.

It is highly improbable that the judge completed his wiMtten decision before his death, and it is likely that the proceedings will have to be heard afresh. His Honor during the case appeared well, although he was very pale, •and he took a lively interest in the proceedings.
