COUNTED OUT.

BOXING REFEREE.

LAST NIGHT'S FIGHT.

BROADFOOT BEATS POCOCK.

(Special to Star.) AUCKLAND, June 23. When Artie Hay and Nelson McKnight fought at the Town Hall a few weeks ago, the crowd disapproved in no uncertain manner with the decision of the referee in declaring McKnight and counted him out. A packed house made a similar demonstration at the conclusion of a tenround professional contest last evening between Jim Broadfoot and Clarrie Pocock.' There were two judges and a referee and the decision was in favour of Broadfoot. - The official announcer called Broadfoot-s name but inadvertentlv oointed to Pocock's corner He hastened to make a correction and held up Broadfoot's'hand, as the wanner. The crowd, however, disagreed with the decision and counted out the announcer for several minutes. The demonstration was still going on when the two amateurs were in the ring for th e next contest. Pocock Agrees. After the fight Pocock said lie was quite satisfied the decision was a correct one and he did not like the attitude adopted by the crowd. J. Thompson, Pocock's trainer, also agreed that the decision was correct. Casey v. Hay. The second professional contest between Casey and Hay ended unexpectedly in the final round when Casey was disqualiefid. allegedly for punching 'low.' The bout had been a disappointing one throughout and the large crowd left disappointed, but showed no signs of disageement with the decision. The Winner Challenged.
