THAMES MAN KILLED.

DEATH AT PUTARURU.

CRUSHED BY LOG

ACCIDENT IN BUSH. The death occurred on Saturday afternoon at the Te Whetu bush, near Putaruru, of Mr Albert Clarence Jamieson, who was one of a family very well-known in Thames district. Mr Jamieson went up into the bush along the tramline to assist in replacing two large logs which had fallen off the bogies, and, after one log had been successfully replaced and the end of the other also got into position, the balance of the log was being jacked up. The bolster slipped and the whole weight of the log fell upon Mr Jamieson, who was instantaneously killed.

An inquest was held in Putaruru yesterday afternoon, and a verdict was returned of accidental death, no blame being attachable to anyone. The funeral took place in Hamilton to-day. The late Mr Jamieson, who was 58 years of age, leaves a widow and a grown-up family of three sons and three daughters.

Messrs E. and T. Jamieson, of Tapu, are brothers of the deceased, and Mrs Strange, of Mount Pleasant, Thames, is a sister.

A sad coincidence is that a few yeai-s ago a younger brother of the deceased was killed under an almost similar set of circumstances.

The last time Mr Jamieson was in Thames was to attend the golden wedding celebrations of his brother at Kopu a of weeks ago.
