OBITUARY.

MR. JOHN SOMERVELL. The death is reported from Gisborne to-day of an old Thames resident, Mr John Somervell, at the ripe age of 88. Mr Somervell came to Thames among those who saw the opening of the goldfield in 1867, and'was prominent in mining circles. He was in partnership with the late Mr H. H. Adams in the Bright Smile, and was lottery manager. Later ho was manager of the Deep Sinker in Rolleston Street. Mr and Mrs Somervell left Thames in 1900 to reside in Gisborne. He is survived by Mrs Somervell. Mr H. G. Somervell, of the A.M.P. Society, Hamilton, is a son.
