A TOTAL WRECK.

CAR CATCHES FIRE,

ACCIDENT AT WAITOA.

A large motor car was completely destroyed by fire on the Morrinsville Road just outside Waiktoa on Wednesday evening, just after dark. The car was a five-seater Jewett, No. 26,613, and was owned by "William Page, an engine-driver, of Paeroa. He was travelling towards Morrinsville .when the fire took place.. He was the only occupant, and escaped any" injury. It is not known how the fire originated, but it completely desroyed the car, of which a very bedraggled-look-ing ruin was all that remained on the side of the road to bear' witness for what was once a good car. Every part of the car that was able to be burned was burned to ashes and even the iron work of the stering wheel had succumbed with the heat. The wheels had burned also, except the right-hand front one, which was intact. .Of the others, nothing was left but charred remains, even the spokes having.been turned to ash.

It is stated that the car is covered to some extent by insurance, but the exact amount could not be learned.
