LABOUR PARTY AND INDEPENDENT LABOUR.
'The British Labour Party and the Independent Labour Party (to which attention has .been drawn by the withdrawal of Mr Philip Snowden from the latter) \ are two distinct or-
ganisatiqns, the Labour Party hav-' ing 'been formed in 1900 with a total membership of 375,931, which ,has. since grown to something in the vicinity of four millions, -while the independent body was formed some years earlier, but has never attained anything like the membership of the newer organisation, its total membership never having exceeded 35,000. The .Independent Labour Party is not very greatly different from the Labour Party in its platform and propaganda, thought it .has probably, paid greater attention to the educational side of politics, holding summer schools at which various phases of Socialist politics are discussed. Ever since its inception in 1893 the so-call-ed independent party has continued its association with the Labour Party proper, and the Communist International, though it has been very largely free of the disputations with Communism which .have commanded a good deal of the attention of the larger movement and the.local Labour Parties affiliated to it. •
