PRODUCTIVITY OF GUMLANDS
MINISTERS GO NORTH.

"We have to face the fact that there may he a fairly big overflow of unemployed next winter, therefore any place that would absorb a number of men would be valuable," said Hon. A. D. McLeod to-day. With Plon. O. J. Hawken, and possibly the Prime Minister, Hon. J. G. Coates, he was going north to ascertain the possibility of bringing a portion of the gumlands of the far north into productivity. He mentioned Kerikeri "block of 20,000 acres, the possibilities- of which had never been properly examined, and also a similar block near Taupo.
