LOCAL NEWS.
The N.S.S. Co.'s steamer leave* Thames to-morrow at noon.* Motorists to and from Coromandel were seriously delayed on Monday morning owing to the fall of two large trees across the road. A bush fire was the cause of the falls, which took about thee hours to clear.
A nasty accident, which might have been fatal, happened to the infant son of. Mr. and Mrs. Bongard on Christmas Day. In running across the road down the Coast the little fellow did not see an approaching car, and was kocked over, receiving nastj' scalp wounds and bruises on the body and legs. He was immediately conveyed by his parents to his home, where he is progressing favourably.
Alxmt 9 o'clock on Thursday evening a Waihi lady living not far from the business part of the town had occasion to go to the back door and on looking out was surprised to see a
kiwi walking about in tbe garden, evidently searching for food. The bird, which was about the size of a black orpington fowl, moved away when an electric torch was turned on it, but on crumbs being thrown out it returned and made a meal.
