EUCHRE AND DANCE.
“CROWDED OUT.” Euchre parties apparently are still very popular as the crowd that assembled at St. George’s Hall in Pollen Street on Saturday evening testified. The younger set danced while all ether available space was taken up by card players. After the shops closed the congestion in the hall began to be felt. Several of the Parliamentary visitors made a point of attending and secured good partners They then adjourned to St. James’ Hall to take part in the presentation of the Mayoral chain. They all returned, however, after that ceremony to snatch another dance before the semi-official supper was held. The music was provided by Williams’ Orchestra, and was, as usual, of the best. It is impossible to say how many couples graced the floor, as a count was impossible. The function was carried on till midnight. The winers of the euchre prizes were as follows: Ladies, Mrs. Culpitt; gents, Miss Geary (acting gent); consolation prize, ladies, Mrs. Gibb (Paeroa); gents, Mr. Tressider. These were presented by Mr. J. Pratt, who made a felicitous speech, congratulating the players on their wins.
