DAIRY RESEARCH.
CONFERENCE OF PARTIES. PROPOSALS OUTLINED. SUGGESTED LABORATORIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 18. At a conference at which the Premier and representatives of the Dairy Control Board, the Agriculture Department, the Agriculture College Council and the Research Council were present it was resolved that dairy research should be carried out apart from the day-to-day tests required by the Department of Agriculture and trade laboratories. A special committee will manage the dairy research laboratories, which will consider the details necessary to the conducting of research. The Research Council is appointing a staff. The dairy factories, however, will be controlled by an Agricultural College, but the officers engaged in research and officers of the Department of Agriculture shall have the right of access for experimental purposes. The ■suggested staff for the laboratory will be a director, a bacteriologist and assistant chemist and assistant, and factory staff. The capital cost of the laboratory, as part of the college buildings, is £2500. The salaries and apparatus are put down at £5400, The Dairy Board will contribute one-half of the total funds required for dairy research. The Research Council or its management committee will arrange for ade co-operation with district laboratories.
