PUBLIC OPINION.
THE QUARRY ACCIDENT,
* (To the Editor)
Sir,—l would like to draw your attention to an error that was made in the report of the accident at the Matatoki quarry, printed in Saturday’s issue of the Star. You have it written up in this way:—“The boy White no doubt wished to help his father to keep his metal contract going’.’’ This statement is fals’e, and I would like to deny it My father had nothing whatever to do with it, and I went to Matatoki on behalf of Mr W. Grover, who was at that time in the hospital with an injured hand. I did not expect any wages for the work, and I went to help Grover personally.—I am, etc.,
R. WHITE,
[The report is correct in its meaning. The actual words used by Cr . Cribb we re: — “The boy, White, showed a desire to help his father to keep his metal supply going.”—Ed., Star.]
