(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)! \ PARIS, Aug. 2. | It is officially announced that Suzannl Lenglen has become a professional She has contracted to play a series o matches in America. Sporting critics regard Mile. Leng len’s decision as a bombshell, whicl may have a far-reaching effect upot tennis. , It is conceded that Mdlle Lenglen has no particular financia reason for throwing up her amateu status, as she has a big income througl films, bookwriting and newspaper ar tides, and her income from photograpl fees alone is considerable. The change will prevent the Frenct woman champion from competing a the Riviera and Wimbledon tournaments, and may even affect her exhibition play. The Daily Chronicle, after discussing the matter with leading Englisl amateurs now playing at Eastbourne says there is no general move towards professionalism, but players are unablt to say what will happen if promoters organise exhibition touring tournaments, then South African and Australian tours might tempt some amateurs.
