“DICK” McGREGOR.
GREAT THAMES FOOTBALLER. SERIOUSLY ILL IN SYDNEY. Advice has been received in Auckland that “Dick” McGregor, one of the finest footballers who have ever represented Auckland and New Zealand, is lying seriously ill in hospital in Sydney. “Dick” McGregor was one of the greatest of a number of great players that Thames has contributed to Auckland and New Zealand football, and is one of four McGregors who have played for Auckland. -According to the trainer of the last New South Wales team which was in New Zealand, “Dick” was considered m Australia to be one of the finest backs who ever played with a New Zealand team. He started his career at Thames, where lie was at his best as a five-eighth before he was selected in 1906 to play for Auckland, and at once made his mark. Next year he was in the New Zealand team against New South Wales at Wellington. in 1902 lie played for the North against the South, and in 1903 lie toured Australia with the New Zealand side, after having captained the North against the South. In 1904 he played for New Zealand against BedellSievright’s British team.
