SUPPORT N.Z. INDUSTRY.

THE WORTH OF A SLOGAN. A WONDERFUL exhibition. USE OF FOREIGN TIMBER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. Mr A. Seed, secretary to the New Zealand Sawmillers’ Federation, returned from Dunedin yesterday morning, and speaking to a Times representative last night, said the exhibition hall was astonishingly well forward, and was going to be a magnificent show, on a scale that few people outside Dunedin realise.' In the New Zealand Industries Court composed practically of exhibits by New Zealand manufacturers, almost without exception each exhibitor’s stall is built almost entirely of foreign timbers. The attention of several of the exhibitors was drawn to the fact and they had no excuses, the reason being that it had never struck them as being illogical to boost their own New Zealand products and support foreign labour for their timber requirements. In most cases they have simply left matters to their contractors, hut they were asked what would happen to their sales if their buying public were merely to leave matters to their shopkeepers.

The incident recalls the ivorine letter opener issued one Christmas time by a Christchurch firm, members of the Federation, being the slogan: “Support New Zealand Industries,” but at the foot of which in microscopical print: “Made in U.S.A.: Printed in Australia.”
