“LATIN FOR SHEEP!”
HINT TO SCHOLARS. / “I remember a. smart boy telling me once that he was going to be a sheepfarmer. and that he would not muster his sheep in Latin. I replied, ‘And you probably will not muster them in the best of English either.’ ” This little story,-told by the Rev. E. C. Crosse, headmaster of Christ’s College. was much appreciated by.the audience which listened to his address upon secondary school subjects at the Education Conference at Ohristehwrch, arranged by the Workers’ Educational Association. Mr Crosse spoke seriously,] however, of the advantages of Latin to schoolboys. The main factor in the education of a good citizen, lie said, was Latin, as in‘that language there was a splendid patriotism. which soaked into the very mind of a boy. v •’
