HAMILTON’S ROADS.

SURFACE NOT WEARING WELL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAMILTON, Oct. 22. The serious condition of the bitumen roads put down last summer throughout the Borough was referred to by Mr T. A. Snell, chairman of the works committee, last night, speaking particularly of Grey Street. He said that in patches some of the roads were badly laid down. Mr Denz defended the late engineer* (Mr W. Stevens), and said councillors only had themselves to blame, as they sanctioned an inf@rior class of roads preferring a lot of these to fewer good ones.

Mr Snell said that everything possible was being done to improve the position by widening the bitumen to permit of better surfacing.
