INTERESTING GAMES.

CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS.

The final for the senior championship between Marshall and Berry provided an interesting contest over 27 holes at the Racecourse on Saturday. Going out, Marshall got well away from the tee, and after halving the first, won the second and third. He took 6 to his opponent’s 4 at the fourth, and halved the fifth. Purnell th.en struck a good patch, and, with a 3 and two 4’s. accounted for the next three holes, hut crashed at the ninth with a 7, Marshall taking 5, and facing the second round 1 down. He holed out in 6 at the tenth, to Purnell’s (whose putting was erratic) 7, and got 4’s at the next three holes, followed by a 3 at the fourteenth. Purnell also got his third successive 4 at the fifteenth, and also won the sixteenth with a well-played 4. The seventeenth and eighteenth cost him 12, Marshall getting a 4 and a 6. The final round saw Marshall go out with 3 in the bag. The nineteenth and twentieth were halved in s’s and 4*s. but Marshall got a 3 at the twenty-first, and holed out in one Jess than his opponent at the twentysecond. Five down and sto go, Purnell came to light with a 3 at the twenty-third, Marshall taking 6. Purnell got another 3*.at the twentyfourth. but Marshall was equal to the occasion, and also sunk his third, halving the hole, and winning the match by 4 and 3. Marshall’s driving was steady and strong, and he putted confidently throughout. Junior. For the third year in succession Bern* went out to contest the final for the junior championship. He was unfortunate this year in striking an opponent of the calibre of Dr. A. S. Gray, who seems to improve with every game.

The issue was never seriously in doubt. Berry, who used the ir<?n from the tee, usually finding it necessary to • play two shots to get-.the length of his opponent’s drive: : The latter won rathe 7- c-asily, 7 and 6. and is already spoke oof as likely to contest the senior final next year.
